How to care for your Peperomia clusiifolia (Red Margin)

Allow the top 3 cm of the soil to dry out before watering, and if anything, keep it on the dry side. The trick is not to over water as these plants are naturally drought resistant.

With Peperomia plants less is more. Apply a half strength balanced fertiliser every 3 months in the warmer months.

The Peperomia needs medium to bright light and will tolerate shade although reduced light may result in fewer leaves and leaf drop. While direct sun should be avoided, they do well under fluorescent lights but will need at least 12 hours of light.

Common pests include mealybugs, and spider mites. Insecticidal soap or neem oil being the easiest treatment for these pests.

The biggest problem with these plants is often the result of overwatering. Discoloured or drooping leaves or root rot will occur if the soil remains saturated. If this occurs it is best to re-

pot using fresh well draining soil, be sure to cut away any rotting roots.
